  • Thanks for this Mary, brilliant idea! Happy New Year.
I would like more information about how I phrase my PALAR study. I know PALAR is embedded throughout all of the research and every choice made, but how do you make it meaningful without sounding repetitious?
  • I would like more information on a PhD student developing the facilitation skills to deliver action research, I am reaching the end of my study now, and I would have liked more preparation and supervision on supporting co-participants into action.
  • Something that I have worked through with my supervisor is understanding what their role and function is. At first I was very intimidated by the extensive comments on my writing, most of which were critical questions. She is very thorough and thus these questions felt like bullets which, to begin with, I found very disempowering. It took me a few years to realise that she was engaging in a dialogue with me/what I had written rather than denigrating what I had produced. Once I had realised this and she realised the impact she was having, I felt far more confident to filter, challenge, disregard or discuss. While it is the habit of academics to continually question, it is not necessarily a familiar modus operandi for mature students who have been out of education for a long time.
  • Hi all
I'm picking up two things here:

    - methodological knowledge
    - the role of the supervisor

These could usefully form two discussion threads, where people could share experiences, and provide support in a mutual and collaborative way.

If people have other ideas for themes that could inform discuss threads, please do let us know, and in the meantime, contribute to this discussion, and the other two, as appropriate!

    Mary
